Job Description
Our clients, a well established and highly respected law firm, who are recognised for their specialist property work (particularly in Leasehold Reform and Landlord and Tenant) have an opportunity for a Solicitor to join their expanding team.

This vacancy has arisen as a result of a predicted growth as the property market emerges from its current sleepy state and the need for tenants to exercise their rights to ensure that market values are obtained. This produces opportunities in the practice acting for both tenants and landlords alike in pursuing or as the case may be, resisting enfranchisement claims.

The successful applicant will join an established team who represent both UK and USA based clients including tenants exercising the right to enfranchise for the freehold of their homes or extended leases of their flats, Right to Manage applications, Right to Enfranchise applications in respect of flats and houses and the sale and purchase of ground rents for institutional and private landlords.

In addition to their presence in Leasehold Reform/Landlord and Tenant, our clients also provide a range of commercial property services representing charities, investors, independent developers and purchasers.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant will have upwards of 3 years’ PQE which will encompass a sound knowledge of drafting leases, agreements and commercial transactions, but experience in Leasehold Reform law matters is more important than commercial transaction experience. Responsibilities will include:

• Taking instructions from clients whether landlords or tenants, in respect of enfranchisement work and giving generic advice including claims under Section 1 of the Leasehold Reform Act 1967, claims for extended leases on flats, transactional work falling under Section 5 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1987, sale and purchase of freehold ground rents and all associated conveyancing work in connection with residential landlord and tenant property work undertaken by the firm.
• Progression of such claims, providing client care throughout, regular communication and result driven service.
• Assisting in marketing presentations with other team members.
• Assisting in marketing the firm’s services.
• Deputising for other team members during their absence from the office.
• Assisting in training staff within the practice.
• Assisting with the progression of cases in the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal, but not necessarily including advocacy.
• Drafting commercial agreements and handling small commercial transactions.

Whilst there will be an opportunity to further develop skills using the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal Service, it is unlikely that the successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate advocacy or other semi-contentious experience in this area.

The vacancy is to commence immediately and will attract a competitive salary and performance driven bonus.
